An expert on Thursday said the Nyamulagira volcano in the Virunga Mountains of the Democratic Republic of the Congo is currently in high intense activity that can lead to a blowout next week, China's Xinhua news agency repported.
No sign of impact on famous Nyiragongo volcano
Kaco Karume, a member of the Volcanic Observatory of Goma (OVG), said Nyamulagira's eruption will have no impact on the famous Nyiragongo volcano, whose activity is in a normal state.
Karume reassured local residents that they will be informed of the evolution of the volcano.
The Nyamulagira volcano is located 22 km north of Goma, capital of North Kivu province.
A member in charge of security of the Virunga National Park said the volcano poses no threat to mountain gorillas and other animals living there.
Recent eruptions of Nyamulagira date back to November 2011 and January 2010.
