Submitting a News Story to MiReportz
Simply use the 'Register' link on the left hand side of any page to create a MiReportz journalist's account. If you're happy to be known it's quickest and simplest to use the Facebook integration button, but if you judge that you're exposed, we recommend you use the anonymous login. Either way, creating an account takes around 20 seconds. Having completed the very short form, you'll need to check your email address for the verification link, click on it, and you're good to go (though you may need to look on your spam box if you can't find the email). Then, log into the MiReportz website using the login button on the left, and click on the 'Submit New Report' link on the drop-down menu beside the 'Log out' button.
You're now ready to write your own story or showcase another writer's work (in which case, please attribute it). Having completed the story, submit the article and then select the 'Add Media' option. If working on a computer you'll now be able to simply drag your chosen images into the 'Add Media' page. If using a mobile device, you'll be able to access images you've taken on your phone. Bear in mind that we have to limit uploads to 1MB per person, so if you've just taken shots on a mobile, you may need to email the images to yourself first, selecting the 'medium' or 'large' size option to rapidly compress the images to the required size.
To avoid the risk of losing your work, we strongly recommend that you reject any instincts to be a perfectionist. It's best to throw up a few words, make sure they're live, and then go back in and edit as many times as you like. Speed should be the priority. And please always submit some kind of image (even if it's not particularly relevant), or you'll get a blank slide on the homepage - which is more distracting than something irrelevant.
Submitting a Video
Submitting a video is a great idea. This will allow many more people to benefit from your work as most of us nowadays want to watch videos in preference to reading more than a few paragraphs of text. We don't care if your video is grainy and shaky. We want reality, and speed. If you can take a few seconds of video, you'll be able to upload them to YouTube much faster. You can paste something like ten video links, so rather concentrate on getting something up there and start establishing affinity with your fellow readers, rather than feeling like you need to publish something well edited and presentable. You can always come back later and replace it when you've got time. There's no limit to how many times you can edit a report.
To submit a video, simply use your smart phone's YouTube upload function (if you have this option available), or upload your video from your computer to YouTube's website (you'll need to create a YouTube account if you don't already have one). Then, once your video is uploaded and hosted on YouTube, Vimeo, or similar, you'll need to sign in to MiReportz and visit the story you've written that you want to add the video to.
To add video, simply click on the settings icon (a small cog on the left hand side near the top of your article), and select 'Add Media' from the drop down menu.
Now, all you need to do is click the 'videos' tab and paste in the URL / website address of the YouTube video that you want to add!
Site Not Working?
If you want us to submit your report for you, please write: 'Please Submit: [Report's Title]' in the email's subject line, and attach some photos. Our team will then manually upload the story. While we can't promise, we will always aim to get the article published the same day (depending on where in the world you are, this could be the following day).
